Moody 54 — Valkiry Solar Arch (Modified Forward-Facing)
Quick Summary
Design Type
Valkiry Modified Forward-Facing
For this Moody 54, we engineered a bespoke version of our Valkiry Yacht Solar Arch. The project involved creating an expansive, robust structure to complement the yacht's wide 4-metre stern, incorporating existing metalwork and custom corner seating. Designed to lift a heavy dinghy via a one-rope manual winch system, the arch ensures both reliable support and effortless operation. A key feature was the integration of three 435W solar panels, positioned to extend forward over the cockpit rather than the stern. This configuration delivers additional shading for enhanced comfort in the cockpit area. The installation is neatly centred, avoiding clutter at the stern and maximising practical utility. Further enhancements included mounting a life raft cradle, a Starlink bracket, and extending the safety railing to the next stanchion — boosting both functionality and safety. This arch was the second produced on our custom jig, allowing us to precisely replicate the yacht's contours in our workshop. This streamlined the fabrication process and ensured a perfect fit at installation — eliminating the need for premature site visits or adjustments. The owner brought his yacht to Sparkes Marina on Hayling Island, allowing for a smooth two-day installation following a four-week fabrication period.
