The objective for this project was to design and fabricate a solar arch that provides shading for the cockpit, maximises available energy generation, avoids overhang at the stern, and integrates seamlessly with the vessel's existing structures. Key requirements included a visually cohesive appearance, an efficient davit system, and clutter reduction through integration with the original pushpit, as well as provision for a wind generator mounting bracket. A principal challenge was the presence of a centrally located backstay, which precluded the installation of three large solar panels oriented forward. After evaluating possible configurations, the design shifted to accommodate two high-efficiency panels, each capable of up to 585W output. This provided the necessary energy yield within the available footprint. To maintain continuity with the Beneteau Oceanis 46's design, the side frames of the arch were shaped to mirror the existing pushpit's geometry, with all four horizontal intersection points following the original forms. The main frame uses 2-inch OD tubing, with 1½-inch OD cross members, providing structural robustness while supporting both the solar array and ancillary equipment. Two lifting eyes at the aft frame facilitate a practical davit solution for tender handling. The resulting structure is stable and weather-resistant, with clear opportunities for future additions — such as extra equipment brackets — without compromising the design integrity or primary functions.
